IGN recently had the chance to talk to Prison Break star Dominic Purcell in conjunction with the upcoming DVD release of the second season of the series. During the conversation, Purcell also gave us some information about Prison Break's third season, which is premiering September 17th.
"Season 3 is amazing," said the actor. "It's coming along beautifully. We have a Panamanian prison. And if you're familiar with prisons in Columbia or Panama, they're like these lawless fortresses where the inmates are allowed to basically just do their own thing. And so you have us dealing with these drug lords and psychotics. You've got T-Bag stooping to all kinds of measure to survive. You've got Bellick walking around in a diaper. You've got Mahone losing his mind because his pills are gone. You've got Scofield dealing with all of this stuff. And you've got Lincoln trying to get his brother out of all this mess."
Purcell elaborated that Lincoln has "been blackmailed by this new character called Susan B. who basically says, 'I have your son and I have Sara and if you don't get this guy out of prison called Whistler, they'll be killed.' So Lincoln and Michael have to break this guy out of prison. It's gonna be a great, great season."
Purcell stressed how hardcore this new prison the characters find themselves in is, noting "Season 1 was like a five-star resort compared to this prison. And so what you're basically dealing with is highly entertaining and dramatic stuff. People have so invested in these characters and we can assure them that they won't be let down."
The actor even got a bit more Spoilery with us, as he talked about how his character Lincoln is one of the few not locked up again. "You have Lincoln who is on the outside trying to work his magic," said Purcell. "And at some point Michael does get out of jail and the other characters will have to stay behind for awhile. But the suits have seen some stuff that's been cut together and apparently have been blown away by it. Originally, the concept was only to spend six or seven episodes in jail, but they've since ordered four or five more, so this season I think that the prison is going to be the star."
